Holidays

1. University holidays scheduled as off on the student calendar will be honored
2. As an Acting Intern, your presence on the team is needed.  You will not be expected to have days surrounding official holidays off. 

Work Hours and Days Off

1. You can expect to have the same maximum work hour limitations as an intern – 80 hours/week or 30 hours/call period maximum.  This is mandatory and we on the medicine services have worked hard to ensure that our students and residents are able to meet these requirements.  Each site will have slightly different methods for achieving this, but essentially you will meet the same requirements as an intern at your site.

2. You will have an average of one day off each week.   You will likely have one weekend when you are on call on Saturday and post call on Sunday and therefore may not get a day off for that weekend, but then will later have a “golden weekend” during which you have off for an entire weekend.  The specifics will be site specific but the general rule of 4 days off for the month rotation is a requirement.

3. Learning to balance the professional needs for good patient care with the time limit requirements is important.  Please do not hesitate to ask for help from your resident and co-workers.  If there are problems please contact your course director or the program director/AI director at your site.
