Seminar Schedule:
Topics and Lecturers will vary slightly on each rotation.
The actual schedule for each rotation will be distributed at orientation.
Please see Conference Topics and Outlines for the current seminar schedule.
We will make an effort to post lectures on the web page when possible; however, please refer to the paper copy as distributed and updated for dates, times and lecturers.
All 12-1 PM daily lectures will be given in Room 238 MacNider for UNC students and will be broadcast by videoconference to students at the DDH and CMC sites. Textbooks may be purchased from the Medical School Bookstore. Please read the section(s) pertaining to the upcoming lecture(s) in one of the recommended textbooks prior to each week's session. In addition each site may offer additional child and/or adult case conferences. Please see the lecture schedule for each block for topics and dates. The Case Conference Schedule for UNC students will be given out at orientation.
Attendance at seminars is required of all students unless excused in advance.
Students are strongly encouraged to attend the Psychiatry Department Grand Rounds , held each Friday, 1:00 -2:30 PM in 321 MacNider (except for the first Friday of each month) if their schedules permit. However, attendance at these sessions is not required. Psychiatry Grand Rounds for each month are listed on a bulletin; check with your ward Nursing Station for topics.
Students are strongly encouraged to attend the biweekly Clinical Case Teaching Conference serving the patients of the adult inpatient units in the Neurosciences Hospital. An inpatient resident will select the patient for this case conference each Monday, 1 -2:30 PM, in Conference Room A (10109) 1st Floor, Neurosciences Hospital. The format will be an interview led by Dr. Hutto (or other faculty members) which will last approximately 30 minutes to be followed by a 5-10 minute open question opportunity with the patient by conference participants when the patient is agreeable. The patient will then be excused. The case will be discussed in the context of the interview material as well as additional data provided by the resident and other staff. Focus is to be balanced with consideration of psychodynamic, biological, behavioral, family systems, and social factors with a special emphasis on psychodynamic formulation. Debate from varied persepctives is anticipated and welcomed. Integration of concepts toward a clear conceptualization of the patient and the treatment needs of the patient is the goal.
(Dates/times are tentative and subject to change as lecturers' schedules change.
Students will be notified of any changes via their personal pager or phone.
Only CL and on call students will have departmental pagers.)
There is variability in the scheduled lectures for students throughout the year. Please see Conference Topics and Outlines for the current seminar schedule.
